Intel delayed the release of 802.11a/b chip which was originally set to deliver by end of September. Intel is now shift its emphasis on 802.11g and a/b/g chips, according to the sources familiar with the matter.
However, analysts said that deosn't matter much since what the the enterprise wants most is 802.11a/b/g combination chips or 802.11g-only solutions for home networks.
Meanwhile, Wi-Fi competition is stiff. Broadcom and Philips this week announced low-power 802.11b chips, with a slew of other companies set to weigh in with their latest a/b/g offerings next week.
Sources said Intel's a/b chip is scheduled to be shipped in mid October while the b/g chip will be ready by year's end. And the 802.11a/b/g chip is set to release by mid-2004.
