Infineon established China HQ

Wednesday, September 17, 2003

Infineon Technologies AG has established a  headquarters in China, company CEO Ulrich Schumacher announced today. Infineon's worldwide headquarters is still based in Germany.

In the months between, Infineon's actions hinted that China would be the way to go. No stranger to the region, the memory maker has set up several agreements there, including a 300mm manufacturing deal with SMIC; has facilities in Wuxi and Xian in place; and employees 800 people in the country, a number Infineon expects to climb to 3,000.

"We have set ourselves ambitious goals in China and are confident that we can achieve them," Schumacher said in a statement. "In the next five years we aim to double our market share in China, from its current 5 percent to 10 percent.

"It is extremely important for the success of Infineon to be involved in this fast-growing market," he continued. "This will also help us to safeguard jobs in Germany and at our other locations."

The new China headquarters, located in Shanghai, will house central administration, as well as a large software center, Infineon said.

"Infineon Technologies China is organized as a holding company, which provides a high degree of flexibility for entering into new partnerships and joint ventures with other Chinese companies," Pow Tien Tee, who has been appointed managing director of Infineon's Chinese subsidiary, said in a statement
