The price of 256Mbit graphics memory has stabilized at US$4.20-4.70 per chip after an earlier decline, according ot a news source.
The latest mid- and high-end ATI and Nvidia graphic cards are now all supporting 256Mbit graphics memory, according to news releases. Nvidia NV31XP core-based graphics cards in particular, would each require at least eight 256Mbit memory die. Units shipment of NV31XP are expected to reach 500,000 by year-end, according to some graphics card makers.
A few months agao, DRAM makers cut back 256Mbit graphics memory due to low demand. Now the supply may be insufficient, according to a graphic card maker. Some IC distributors said that memory marketers plan to buy 256Mbit graphics memory in the spot market and through other channels to increase inventory for the coming high season.
