Intel rolled out its fastest 32-bit Xeon microprocessor--a 3.2-GHz chip for dual processor servers.
The processor is designed for use in general-purpose servers for Web hosting, data caching, search engines, security, and streaming media applications. In the workstation space, the processor is geared for digital content creation, mechanical and electrical design, financial analysis, and 3D modeling.
It works in conjunction with Intel's E7501 chip set for servers or the company's E7505 chip set for workstations. The Xeon processor at 3.2-GHz is now available worldwide for $851, in 1,000-unit quantities. System manufacturers will be shipping systems based on this new Xeon processor this week
