Advanced Micro Devices Inc. today reported a sales increase of 88 percent to $954 million for Q3 over the same period a year ago.
The company also shrank its loss to $31 million for Q3 2003 compared with $254 million during the same period last year. AMD's sales and net income results for Q3 include the operating results of FASL LLC, a partnership that is 60 percent owned by the company and 40 percent owned by Fujitsu Ltd.
"We delivered strong sales growth in our microprocessor and flash memory business lines while tightly managing our expense structure," said Robert Rivet, CFO, in a statement. "Sales were up on a global basis reflecting increased demand in each of our major businesses and all geographic regions."
Company officials attributed reductions in its operating loss to sales growth and operational efficiencies.
AMD executives expect sales to further increase in Q4. The company said it expects microprocessor sales to climb due to seasonal boosts and growing demand for its 64-bit processors. In addition, AMD officials believe that flash memory sales will also grow based on the seasonal boost and increasing customer acceptance of its MirrorBit technology.
