Infineon Technologies will invest US$600 million in Taiwan during the next three years, said Klaus Gohlke, vice president of Infineon Technologies, Asia Pacific, at the 2003 Taiwan Business Alliance Conference this week.
The majority or US$550 million will be spent on Inotera Memories, according to a local source in Taiwan. Inotera is a 50-50 joint venture between Infineon and Nanya Technology. The remaining some will be spent on joint development with UMC, the source said.
Infineon also plans to work with some Taiwanese IC design houses targeting WLAN and handset ICs during the next three years, Gohlke said. Besides outsourcing to UMC and Winbond Electronics, Infineon plans to find new foundry partners in Taiwan, Gohlke added.
