SanDisk plans to enter the China market next year, with Taiwan-based Princeton Technology as its agent, according to sources familier with the matter.
According to Sandisk's report, Asia accounted for more than 20% of its revenues in the third quarter, up from 8% in 2001. The company plans to supply NAND flash chips to Chinese OEMs contract markets as well as to the spot market.
To ensure sufficient NAND flash supply in the future, SanDisk may consider outsourcing production to Chinese or Taiwanese foundries. SanDisk currently outsources NAND flash production to Toshiba, Renesas Technology and Samsung Electronics, according to the company.
