Cisco Systems will buy conferencing software maker Latitude Communications to add to its voice technology group. Cisco will pay $3.95 in cash for each outstanding share of Latitude in a total of $80 million, the company said in a statement.
Latitude makes software products such as MeetingPlace which handles audio and Web conferencing. The software works with its own Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook e-mail as well as with Cisco's CallManager to allow people to schedule and attend meetings.
"This acquisition will enable Cisco to accelerate delivery of intelligent multimedia conferencing solutions which take advantage of dynamic network information...to improve workplace productivity," Don Proctor, general manager of Cisco's Voice Technology Group, said in a statement.
