Worldwide communications chip market is projected to grow 20 percent in 2003 and another 26 percent in 2004 after a two years downturn, according to a report from IC Insights. It is projected that only by 2007 that communications IC market would return to its 2000 peak level of $41.5 billion, IC Insights said.
Wireless ICs are growing faster than the overall semiconductor market. In total, the semiconductor market is projected to grow 15 percent in 2003 over 2002, according to IC Insights.
Not surprisingly, the wireline market remains soft due to overcapacity in long-haul and metro networks. Wireline system sales are projected to be flat in 2003, according to IC Insights. Meanwhile, the wireline chip market is projected to grow 5 percent in 2003, the report said.
