Nvidia samples fastest graphic chip

Tuesday, November 18, 2003
Nvidia announced its fastest graphics processor slated for mobile PCs applocation.

The Nvidia 's Ge Force FX Go 5700 is made by IBM Microelectronics using 0.13-micron process technology. Bill Henry, director of mobile products management for Nvidia, Santa Clara, Calif., said the new processor is one-and-a-half times faster than the previous-generation Ge Force FX Go 5600.

The new unit has three geometry processors compared to only one for previous mobile GPUs. Henry said the Ge Force FX Go 5700 has doubled the number of floating-point operations per second over previous mobile processors.

The 5700 is also the first Nvidia mobile processor to Ultra Shadow technology. The technology has been used in Nvidia desktop GPUs to double the speed of shadowing operations. The mobile processor supports video of high-definition-TV quality at a rate up to 30Mbits/s, 66% faster than previous Nvidia mobile processors, the company said.

The chip is sampling now, with production quantities scheduled for December
