Sun Microsystems announced a series of new computer servers, software and services as part of its efforts to restructure and boost sales, according to the company.
Sun said in November that it will start using Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Opteron microprocessors in its enterprise servers. The company also annouched signing a deal with in November to supply a group of Chinese state companies with at least 200 million copies of its Java Desktop System.
Included in the announcements is a new, low-cost Sun server, the B100x server, which uses a single Opteron processor, which is compatible with Intel Corp. processors. Such chips are known as x86 compatible. The B100x server starts at $1,795 and is available now, Sun said.
