Worldwide ICs shipments are expected to reach $175 billion in 2003, up 11.8 percent from 2002, with total revenue increased 2 percent, said Dataquest.
In November, Gartner/Dataquest projected that the IC market would reach $174 billion in 2003, up 11.7 percent over 2002. In 2004, the market is expected to grow 20 percent and reach nearly $210 billion, according to the firm.
In the rankings, Intel remained the No. 1 vendor based on worldwide semiconductor revenue in 2003, with 16 percent of the market. This is the 12th consecutive year that Intel has held the top spot.
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. of Korea was in the second position, followed by Japan's Renesas Technology Inc., a joint venture between Hitachi Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp.
For two years, Samsung's growth was aided by strong NAND flash memory sales. Toshiba Corp. grew 15 percent year-over-year and ended up in fourth place, thanks to a boost in NAND flash memory sales.
Texas Instruments Inc. was in fifth place in the rankings, followed by STMicroelectronics Inc., Infineon Technologies AG, NEC Corp., Motorola Inc., and Philips Semiconductors.
