The Taipei District Prosecutors Office has charged two top executives from Via Technologies and an employee with alleged theft of a rival firm's software coding.
Via Chairwoman Cher Wang and her husband, president Wenchi Chen, face up to four years in prison if convicted of the alleged theft. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Chang, a senior consultant at subsidiary Via Networking Technologies Inc., could spend three years in jail if found guilty.
Prosecutors charged that Wang and Chen colluded to illegally obtain chip testing simulation software by sending Chang to work at Taiwan rival D-Link Corp.which developed the coding.
Chang was being paid by VIA while working at D-Link, the report said. Taiwan's D-Link is a supplier of networking equipment.
In a press conference Saturday, Chen denied the charges, calling the case a "misunderstanding," the report said.
