Chipset vendor Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS) and PCTel Inc. have formed a partnership to offer wireless communications based on the SiS162 wireless LAN chipset and PCTel's Segue software, SiS said Tuesday (December 23, 2003).
The wireless communication offered is based on the IEEE 802.11x wireless standard and is intended for mobile users. The SiS-PCTel offering provides a Windows-based software access point for WLAN cards.
The SiS162 WLAN chip requires a SiS logic chipset either desktop or notebook, The SiS162 itself is a wireless LAN Medium Access Controller (MAC) and baseband processor that supports the IEEE 802.11b standard.
