Elpida Memory Inc, a Japanese DRAM supplier, announced that it has halted negotiations with Taiwan's ProMOS Technologies Inc for a potential strategic alliance.
The two companies had formed a basic agreement in May 2003 in which: (1) Elpida would license 0.10-micron and finer process technology to ProMOS, (2) Elpida and ProMOS would participate in the joint development of next-generation DRAM processes, and (3) ProMOS would supply DRAM products to Elpida.
According to Elpida, a number of detailed discussions were held. However, a final agreement could not be reached. Although plans to form a strategic alliance with ProMOS have been halted, Elpida claimed the halt will have no effect on its production capacity.
