The moving average prices of 256MB DIMMs (PC2100) on the spot market for the 30 days ended Dec 12, 2003 (Nov 13 - Dec 12) were US$33.84 in North America, US$33.46 in Europe, and US$33.21 in Asia, according to a worldwide price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR
Compared to the previous week (the 30-day moving average ended Dec 5), the price decreased by 2.82% in North America, 3.22% in Europe and 3.07% in Asia.
For memory units, the large-volume user price for 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8 bit products) rose by 1.02% to US$3.21 in North America and 0.71% to US$3.24 in Europe, whereas it declined by 1.01% to US$3.56 in Asia compared to the previous week.
The 30-day moving average prices ended Dec 12 for the spot markets for Double Data Rate (DDR)-type 256MB DIMMs continued to drop in all three areas of North America, Europe and Asia.
The spot price rose temporarily on a daily basis during the first two weeks of the year-end business season in North America, but it showed trends of declining. Year-end PC business is stagnant in Japan, but it is brisk worldwide. However, PC makers predict that they will not have to increase their first shipments in 2004, and they do not plan to place additional orders for DRAMs.
DRAM prices will not decline sharply, but they are supposed to continue decreasing gradually after the large amount procurement for the year-end business season ends.
