ATI Technologies Inc. has started sampling a graphics chip, the Imageon 2300, designed for mobile phones, the company said.
The Imageon 2300 supports both 2D and 3D graphics, MPEG4 decode, video capture ports for camera sensors of up to two million pixels, a JPEG codec to compress and decompress images and an embedded frame buffer, the company said.
The Imageon 2300 is compatible with the OpenGL ES rendering API and a royalty-free 3D API consisting of profiles of OpenGL. Samples of the chips are currently avaialable. Mass production shipments expected to start in the first quarter of 2004.
