UMC reported its December 2003 net sales at US$248 million, up 8.5 percent from November 2003 sales and up by a whooping 51.8 percent over November 2002.
For the whole fiscal year in 2003, UMC achieved net sales of about US$2.52 billion, an advance of 25.9 percent over 2002, the foundry said.
After a difficult 2002 for all the pure-play foundries, TSMC and UMC have led the group by achieving a decent results in 2003. Market analysts are now predicting that 2004 will be a boom year for foundry work with a growth of 43 percent.
