With the introduction of desktop Prescott processors, some second-tier Taiwanese notebook makers see the opportunity by packing it in the notebook before Intel launches Mobile Prescott processors in the second quarter of this year, according to sources.
Although a little heavier and it consumes more power, notebook with desktop Prescott processors has the cost advantages over its counterpart with Mobile Prescott processors.
Desktop Prescott processors running at 2.8, 3.0 and 3.2GHz with a 800MHz FSB will be priced at US$178, US$218 and US$278, respectively.
On the other hand, the Mobile Prescott processors will include 3.06, 3.2 and 3.46GHz versions with a 533MHz FSB. They will be quoted at US$234, US$294 and US$433, respectively, the sources said.
