Intel delay the launch of its mobile Dothan processors to April or May from early February as most recently revised. The move has upset the Taiwan based notebook makers, reported by sources familiar with the matter.
The notebook makers have rescheduled their production lines for deliveries in May although they are not sure exactly when Intel will start delivering the chip, the sources said.
The sources speculated that Intel is focusing its relatively limited 90nm capacity on the desktop-use Prescott processors in order to better compete with AMD’s newly launched Athlon 64 3400+ processors for high-end desktop PCs.
Although the Prescott chips are intended for desktop used, some Taiwanese notebook makers are using them to make the notebooks PCs for cost saving.
