Hitachi reported a profit of 2.5 billion yen ($23.7 million) in the last quarter ended December in contrast to a loss of 2.2 billion yen a year earlier.
Sales totaled 2.05 trillion yen ($19 billion), up 7 percent from 1.92 trillion yen a year earlier. The improved sales in liquid crystal displays, plasma display panel TVs, mobile phones and computer chips helped the turn-around, the company said.
For the first nine months of the fiscal year, Hitachi posted a profit of 7.9 billion yen ($75 million) on sales of 6.09 trillion yen ($58 billion). Hitachi maintained its forecast for a profit of 10 billion yen ($95 million) on 8.35 trillion yen ($79 billion) in sales for the fiscal year ending March 31.
