Openwave Systems Inc., a maker of software for cell phones, scheduled to offer a tool allowing cell phone users to access Hotmail and MSN Messenger, Microsoft said in a statement.
Microsoft said the company had joint effort with Openwave to develop special software specially for cell phones. The new software platform, called Openwave Phone Suite V7 Platform, will be avaiable beginning in March, the companies said.
Nevertheless, the companies added that the final decision to have such features on the cell phones was in the hands of wireless network operators.
Although access to Hotmail and other e-mail systems has long-been available to mobile phone users through software provided by companies such as Openwave, the deal extends such capabilities to a wider range of phone models.
