Samsung Electronics will make new high-efficiency washing machines for No. 3 U.S. appliance maker Maytag, the two companies said Tuesday.

Maytag, in the process of cost cutting, stressed that the front-loading laundry machines being made by Korean manufacturer Samsung were new products for the company. Maytag also said it will continue manufacturing laundry machines in the United States although some production has been moved to Mexico.

The products will be sold under the Maytag and Amana brands through Maytag's distributors.
