U.S. Administrative Law Judge Stephen McGuire concluded late Tuesday that the FTC had failed to prove charges that Rambus illegally monopolized key computer chip technologies.
McGuire had issued a one-sentence order a week ago dismissing the case filed by antitrust enforcers at the FTC, but his full opinion had not been released until Tuesday.
With the formal release of the opinion, the FTC's staff now has 10 days to decide whether to appeal the ruling. Any appeal would be heard by the five-member commission, and subsequent appeals would go to a federal appeals court.
