SanDisk has developed a fingernail-sized flash memory storage format for used in upcoming 3G phones and other devices, the company said.
The T-Flash is the world's smallest removable flash memory storage format, the company said. At 11 mm x 15 mm x 1 mm, it is about a quarter the size of the smallest removable flash cards now sold for add-on storage.
T-Flash was specifically designed for forthcoming 3G mobile phones with storage-intensive applications.
Two 3G phones announced last week by Motorola will use 32MB T-Flash, SanDisk said. Those phones are expected to be available later this year. The company said that volume production is expected to start in the second quarter and prices for device vendors will range from $14 to $39, depending on capacity. Capacities will range from 32MB to 128MB.
