Tibits on the memory market

Thursday, March 11, 2004
Ritek Corp. has recently introduced RiDATA Pro CF, the first 4GB CompactFlash (CF) card in the world. According to company’s spokesman, the RiDATA Pro CF has capacity to store 1,000 songs, eight hours of MPEG-4 video or more than 2,000 high-resolution images. It offers an average reading speed of 4.48MB/second with a writing speed of 3.62MB/second.

Ritek will market the RiDATA Pro CF under its own brand and it is ideal for high-end digital still cameras from five megapixels to eight megapixels. First glimpse of the product at the 2004 CeBIT show in Hannover, Germany from March 18-24.

Meanwhile, the industry reports on memory showed that the prices increase in last two months, reflecting a positive impact on local dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chip producers. Dramexchange.com reported that the spot prices of the benchmark 256-megabit 333-megahertz double-data-rate (DDR) DRAM chip could rise to US$4.60 based on increased shipments, up from low of US$3.69 in January. Prices hit the US$4.60 level at their highest in February, but averaged out at US$4.20.

Taiwan's DRAM makers include Nanya Technology Corp, Powerchip Semiconductor Corp (PSC), ProMOS Technologies Inc. and Winbond Electronics Corp. are ramping their production to meet the demand.
