Memory chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor Inc. says it has completed development of its 550MHz DDR SDRAM and will begin volume production in April.
Hynix began sampling the memory devices to customers last month.
The Seoul, South Korea-based company said its DDR550 design targets PC enthusiasts who require faster memory devices, such as gamers. The company anticipates strong demand as PC makers adopt Intel's Grantsdale chipset, which supports both DDR and DDR2, in the second half of this year.
Hynix said in a statement that it is the only DRAM supplier currently capable of yielding 550MHz DDR SRAM.
