AMD and Dawning Information Industry Corp Ltd, a company in China's server industry, launched the "Blazing" campaign in China. The campaign aims to ignite the next wave of 64-bit computing across China over the next two years.
To mark the campaign's launch, Dawning introduced its I200A server, powered by the AMD Opteron processor 100 series. The one-way mini tower server targets the education sector and small- and medium-sized enterprises, and is designed to play a pioneering role in pervasive 64-bit computing throughout China.
To unveil and continue to promote demand for 64-bit applications, "Blazing" will be implemented through five key strategies: the creation of comprehensive 64-bit products, the formation of additional 64-bit alliances between AMD and Dawning, the promotion of upgrades to industry applications from 32-bit to 64-bit computing, a channel "Heroes" program, and a "64-bit Elite Project."
To facilitate the ease of upgrading software from 32-bit to 64-bit, the Dawning-AMD-NCIC joint laboratory has been set up at the Institute of Computing Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This lab is planned to complement the formation of 10 application demonstration centers and 50 industry-specific solutions.
To demonstrate the benefits of simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, the "64-bit Elite Project" will focus on education, leveraging the resources and skills of AMD, Dawning, The Institute of Computing Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, The National Research Center for Intelligent Computer Systems and The National Research Center for High-performance Computers for Computing Technology (Engineering Center).
A 64-bit training center is also planned to help build the solid foundation of knowledge required to support 64-bit development. The center is planned to train 500 engineers certified in 64-bit technology, fifty 64-bit specialists and ten 64-bit chief experts.
"The AMD Opteron processor has been widely recognized since its introduction to the market," said Karen Guo, corporate vice president and general manager for China, AMD. "By supporting simultaneous 32-bit and 64-bit computing, AMD64 technology can become an industry standard. Solutions based on the AMD Opteron processor provide more choices and better competitive advantages for users."
Li Jun, president of Dawning, added, "This strategic alliance is not only creating a very real advantage for both parties in leading the way in the 64-bit era, it is also playing an integral part in stepping up productivity. "
