Gateway announced plans to relocate its headquarters to southern Orange County, as part of efforts to combine workers from its San Diego headquarters with employees from the main offices of eMachines.
Gateway acquired low-cost retail PC leader eMachines in March. "It's clear we needed a new head office, because neither of the current ones would be enough to accommodate the large staff and have room for growth," Gateway spokesman said.
The company has yet to sign a contract on a site, but is looking at one in Irvine, Calif., where eMachines is based. Gateway picked up new product distribution channels through acquiring eMachine.
