A DRAM manufacturer cited that contract prices for 256MB DDR modules are expected to increase by up to 14% in April, according to a source familiar with the matter.
DRAM modules prices traditionally decline in April. It is unlikely to recur this year in part of the tight supply, according to industry analysts.
Analysts expect prices for Nanya Technology’s Elixir modules to go up as much as 14% to US$40, while modules made by Samsung Electronics and Infineon Technologies rising 10% and 5 respectively.
An industry observer said that smaller PC makers reportedly cannot secure enough DDR supply from DRAM vendors and are willing to accept higher prices to rebuild their low inventory levels. Hence, the upward trend of the DDR prices in the near future is likely to be certain.
