Google is introducing a free e-mail service that deliver 250 to 500 times more storage space than the market-leading E-mail services provided by Yahoo and Microsoft's Hotmail, the company said.
The catch to the so called Gmail is it will deliver text-based ads related to the subjects being discussed in the email. For instance, an e-mail from one friend to another discussing a trip to Europe might prompt Google to include an text ad link to a travel agency.
Google said the strategy is to to provide a high-quality service to users. The company also said the ads won't be annoying and shouldn't raise serious privacy concerns because Google plans to closely guard the content of the e-mail messages.
Gmail will offer 1 gigabyte of storage space with up to 10 megabytes allowed per receiving e-mail. Yahoo offers up to 4 megabytes of free e-mail storage while Hotmail provides 2 megabytes of free storage.
One additional feature that comes with Gmail is it will enable users to type a keyword into a search box to find information contained in their e-mailboxes within a matter of seconds.
