Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is expanding in China, by planning to spend $100 million on a new IC-packaging and testing plant.
The new plant, to be located in the eastern city of Suzhou, near Shanghai, is expected to package and test microprocessors, according to the report. For years, the Sunnyvale-based company has been operating a similar chip-packaging plant in Suzhou, which packages flash-memory chips.
Finished processors products at the new plant will be shipped to PC OEMs in China and abroad, according to the report. The plant will start operation at the end of 2004 and will employ 300 people.
