DRAM contract prices up, DRAMeXchange said

Wednesday, April 21, 2004

Contract prices for DRAM rose for the second half of April amid the sliding spot prices last week, according to a report from DRAMeXchange. The price gap between contract and spot prices would disappear shoud the current trend continues.

DRAM contract prices rose 12 - 13% to US$43 - $46 for the second half of April, with 256Mbit (32Mbitx8) DDR chips US$5.1 - $5.5.

The bargaining power is with the DRAM makers as PC OEMs become concerned about supply tightening further in the upcoming hot season.

On the other hand, spot prices in Asia for 256Mbit (32Mbitx8) DDR chips fell 7% to about US$5.6 last week after reaching a peak of US$6.5 in the previous week.

News on Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductors dumping inventory into the spot market have affected the prices.
