The supervisory board of Infineon Technologies AG is considering two candidates for the position of chief executive officer. A decision could come as soon as the beginning of July, according to the company's acting chief executive.
Max Dietrich Kley revealed details under intense questioning at the end of a press conference held here Wednesday (April 21) to discuss the company's half-year and second fiscal quarter's results.
The subject of the resignation of Ulrich Schumacher from his position as CEO and president in March came up repeatedly during a question-and-answer session.
Kley was quoted in translation as saying there are two candidates, that neither is from within Infineon, both have semiconductor experience and both are German. "The supervisory board will look closely at this over the next few weeks," Kley was quoted as saying in translation. "The time [for the announcement] could be from up to the beginning of July up to the beginning of September. July if things go quickly and September if they are not so quick."
Kley said he could not reveal the identities of either candidate and that if the name of any candidate leaked out prematurely they would be automatically be disqualified from the appointment.
Kley was less able to explain what a new chief executive officer would do differently from Schumacher. Kley confirmed that the company's present strategies, including outsourcing of manufacturing in Asia, would remain in place.
Infineon reportedly may choose the head of Intel Corp. in Europe, as its next CEO. Juergen Thiel is among the candidates Infineon is considering as a successor to Schumacher, according to a recent report.
