Acer announce it will ship a stylish Red Ferrari 3000 notebook, which the company touts as the globally recognized color signifying passion, power, style and success.
Powering the “passion” is AMD’s mobile Athlon XP-M 2500+ processor, part of a family of low power processors, two of which were announced today. The new processors are the first time AMD has taken its 64-bit technology to low-power mobile processors. AMD Athlon 64 processors 2800+ and 2700+ provide 32-bit computing today with a transition path to 64-bit applications, along with an enhanced virus protection security feature, enabled by the soon-to-be released Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, the companies said in a statement.
To harness the power of its mobile Athlon 64bit processors for notebook use, AMD lowered power consumption by 44 percent to 35 watts in the new processors, which is enhanced by the company’s PowerNow technology to extend battery life.
The Ferrari 3000 notebook is shipping now from Acer. The low-power mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors 2800+ and 2700+ are priced at $241 and $209, in 1,000-unit quantities, respectively.
