Samsung is setting up a global alliance with Nokia Corp and Motorola Inc by providing them with key components.
Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Samsung SDI Co Ltd announced on May 3 that they will further expand the shipments of cell phone components to Nokia and Motorola, a sign that the two Korean companies are viewed as key global sources in terms of the technology sophistication.
Samsung SDI said that it has begun shipping second-generation batteries to Nokia.
After going through a series of product tests, Samsung SDI's products proved to be reliable.
Also, Samsung Electronics has been providing Nokia with Nand Flash memory since the beginning of 2004.
"Nokia has become so heavily dependent on Samsung's components that the Finnish company will pay up to 1 trillion won to Samsung by the end of 2004," said Hwang Chang Kyu, president of the Semiconductor Division of Samsung Electronics.
