TSMC to invest US$1.4 billiion in capacity expansion


Tuesday, May 11, 2004 TSMC will spend US$1.4 billion to expand its manufacturing capacity, the company said.

The company said US$67.3 million would be used to expand the capacities of its 6-inch and 8-inch fabs by a total of 15,600 8-inch equivalent wafers per month.

While another US$1,334 million would be used to expand manufacturing capacity for 90-nanometer copper process at Fab 12 by 14,000 12-inch wafers per month.

The expansion is being made in response to increasing customer demand, the company said in a statement.
