Most of Taiwan motherboard makers believe that the Prescott P4 chip would not be ready in the market until mid-2005 in spite of Intel's aggressive price cutback on its 90nm P4 chips.
Intel is planning to continue its reductions by cutting the price on its entry-level 2.8 GHz (520) Prescott chip in July and as well as lowering the price on both 0.13-micron and 90-nm P4 chips in August of this year. With Intel's strategy of aggressively pushing the prices of its chips lower, it will not likely help move the 90nm P4 chips into the mainstream until mid-2005, sources from the Taiwan motherboard makers added.
They further explained that the introduction into the market of the Prescott P4 chips is hindered by the new standards set by the PCI Express and the adoption of the DDR2 memory.
