Intel invest in Japanese Chemical Plant

Thursday, May 27, 2004
Intel and Jafco Ltd have invested US$4 million in Tri Chemical Laboratories Inc., a manufacturer of semiconductor materials.

Tri Chemical has been developing specialty semiconductor materials such as interconnect and deposition materials, optical fiber materials, etching gases, and special reagents since 1978.

The latest funds would be used to strengthen Tri Chemical's semiconductor materials research and development efforts, Intel said.

"Manufacturers of semiconductor materials like Tri Chemical have an important role to play in the semiconductor industry as chips get smaller and more powerful," said Shiong Tan, director of Intel Capital Japan, in a statement. "Intel Capital's objective in Japan is to invest in technology companies that have a significant role in continuing to enable innovation."
