One of the world's two largest venues for the Information Technologies (IT) industry, COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2004 will kick off on June 1-5 , 2004, at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC).

This "must be there" event will bring together a host of big name corporate giants, as well as hundreds of smaller IT businesses. Some 25,000 buyers will descend on Taipei for this event. Over 80,000 visitors will also be there, sampling the latest technologies and products from around Asia and the world. If you're in information technology, this is the event you can't afford to miss.

One of the exciting developments at COMPUTEX is the launch of Hall 3, conveniently adjacent to the Hyatt Hotel. Hall 3 creates the vital extra space that's sorely needed as Asia’s top show continues to grow.

The mid-summer hit also plugs in the TICC, the Taipei International Convention Center, just next to the TWTC Hall 1. Known to COMPUTEX TAIPEI regular visitors as Stellar Hall, the TICC will be back in action this year as Hall 4.

In keeping with its name, Stellar Hall this year will house both the stars and those reaching for the stars. Participants at TICC include several big international vendor brand names, including Intel, AMD, National Semiconductor, and Mitac. For these large and well-established companies, Hall 4 provides a plethora of meeting rooms and facilities, answering all of their exhibition and business needs.

The TICC will also be hosting smaller, start-up companies who are still in the process of making a name for themselves and establishing a client base. For these companies, Hall 4 again provides the perfect site to connect for higher profiles.

At the gleaming new Hall 3, meanwhile, 2004's COMPUTEX TAIPEI will see a very timely emphasis on Flat-panel Displays, or FPDs as they are known to the throngs of buyers and engineers, system integrators, and press hounds who welcome FPDs as the wave of the future. FPDs are rapidly replacing clunky CRT monitors and establishing themselves as the display technology of choice for next-generation TVs and home theater systems.

Theme pavilions turn IT on!

A success story for COMPUTEX TAIPEI has been the creation of the theme pavilions, dedicated theme areas set aside for exhibitors grouped into special categories that highlight breaking IT trends!

This year an exclusive IC design pavilion area is back bigger and better. It reflects the rise of the Taiwan semiconductor design industry, now that foundries and fabs are able to turn designs into finished silicon. These companies, many of which have become household names, have built Taiwan one of the largest IC design centers in the world.

Another theme pavilion is devoted to High-speed Connectivity, reflecting IT's drive toward ever higher speeds of data transfer and throughput, the success of the USB as an I/O format for peripheral devices, along with IEEE 1394, the technology that first provided connectivity for consumer products such as DV cameras.

In total there will be seven theme pavilions at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2004. In a remarkably varied line-up, these theme areas will also focus on Security, IP Telecoms and IP TV, eLife, Automotive Electronics, Linux and Open Source software and last but not least, Digital Home appliances.

The latter theme pavilion underscores the enormous strides taken this year toward the realization of the home theater concept, the design of the media center PC, the software to run it in the form of Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition, and the flat-panel displays and video players and recorders that will help turn each home into a state-of-the-art digital entertainment center.

Yet another innovation this year will be a special gallery area in Hall 1 devoted to 12 leading local brands. Anyone who has any contact with the world of IT knows that many Taiwan leaders now offer recognized brands in their own right, even though the island is famous for its OEM model of production. Now conveniently grouped together in Hall 1, visitors to the gallery will be able to quickly and efficiently sample the best from Taiwan.

Meanwhile, in Hall 2, local motherboard and system makers will be parading their latest and greatest, the best that Taiwan has to offer from its dynamic system design and manufacturing powerhouse. If you are in the market for the world's best and latest motherboards, graphics cards, and system designs, Hall 2 is where all the action will be, in June.

COMPUTEX TAIPEI continues to consolidate its success with spectacular growth in size and scope. This year, it will occupy a record gross area of 58,730 square meters, compared with last year's 51,360 square meters and host a record 1,329 exhibitors compared with last year's 1,241.

Some star names at the show include Hon Hai Precision, Nanya Plastics, Proton, Hitachi, Ricoh, Sanyo Denki, Agilent, and India's Moserbaer.

COMPUTEX TAIPEI has clearly soared ahead in international prestige. In dozens of countries, companies both large and small now regard COMPUTEX TAIPEI as the "must be there" event they simply cannot afford to miss.

Computex - The High-Tech Leader

Visitors at this year's COMPUTEX TAIPEI can join an expanded program of industry forums to discover the latest trends and technologies, straight from the source where industry leaders make it happen.

In 2004, the e21 Forum will focus on the latest developments in wireless technology. Wi-Fi, we all know, has proved a huge success story, but there are plenty of other wireless technologies vying for market share, including Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Ultra-Wideband. e21 Forum comes in the afternoon of June 1 and in the morning of June 2.

Taiwan's Digitimes, meanwhile, will be sponsoring the Computex Summit, that will focus on new trends, and, in the process, will explore strategies for doing business in China. The Computex Summit will take place throughout both June 2 and June 3, in Room 102 of Hall 4.

In addition, there is also the IAFA Forum, that's devoted to ushering in the latest on information appliances - hence the acronym, from this event's full title, Information Appliance Forum Asia, that's hosted by Dempa Publications, Inc. It includes several presentations from Japanese exhibitors at COMPUTEX TAIPEI. The IAFA Forum will be held throughout June 2 on Floor 2 of the TWTC Hall 1, in Room 345.

Every effort has been taken to make COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2004, convenient, efficient, and fun!

FREE shuttle buses will run between the four halls and also to the main hotels in Taipei, thanks to the show's organizers, TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TCA (Taipei Computer Association).
