NEC will set up an R&D center in Taiwan this year, according to Shinichi Kakimura, company president for the Taiwan region.
The center will focus on development of systems integration (SI) technology, Kakimura indicated.
NEC Taiwan will transfer the technology and R&D team from NEC headquarters in Japan and invite other companies to participate in co-development. Sales contributed by the SI segment are likely to grow by 10 percentage points this year, Kakimura forecast.
Last year, NEC’s IPO (International procurement office) contributed 74% of the company’s total revenues, with NT$29.3 billion.
NEC Taiwan currently has four departments: IPO, SI, retail (selling products including handsets, notebooks, projectors and computer peripherals) and customer services.
