Startup IPextreme is set to deliver new proprietary IP titles based on a new methodology for developing and packaging IP products, and chipmaker Infineon Technologies AG is getting in on the game as well, the companies said today..
IPextreme operates on the premise that design team behavior must changed to eliminate bugs before they are even coded and utilizes its Extreme Programming development process to achieve quality IP, the company claims. This is a deliberate and disciplined approach to design with relentless focus on creating the best quality source code, emphasizing simplicity and customer involvement in the design process and employing techniques such as pair programming and continuous integration to eliminate bugs as early as possible in development, according to IPextreme.
IPextreme packages its IP in an interactive datasheet format to contain all of the information and scripts necessary for customers to integrate the IP.
In support of the Extreme Programming approach, German chipmaker Infineon said it would join IPextreme’s Nexus partner program and would offer its C166 16-bit microcontroller and TriCore 32-bit MCU-DSP cores for licensing through IPextreme by Q3 of this year.
“We are partnering with IPextreme to provide a new third-party source for our IP that offers systems designers the flexibility to work with tools from any EDA vendor," Bernhard Huber, director of product marketing for Infineon, said in a statement. "We look forward to the IPextreme sales channel creating a new source for companies to gain access to Infineon core architectures for use in new system chip designs.â€
Dutch chipmaker Philips has also offered support to IPextreme’s cause and has begun using Extreme Programming internally for software projects, believing that this approach for IP design will reduce defects and decrease the risk for customers buying IP, Matthias Pankert, Philips’ technology licensing officer, said in a statement.
IPextreme was founded in January 2003 and is led by Warren Savage, president, CEO and founder, Michael Chapman, CTO, Michael Cizl, director of the Munich Design Center and Paul Giordano, VP of sales.
