In support of Broadcom’s development of server platform products based on the AMD Opteron processor architecture, AMD and Broadcom provided details this week of a strategic relationship that leverages both companies’ expertise in high-performance system input-output (I/O), storage management and control, and microprocessor technologies.
Under terms of the agreement, Broadcom and AMD said they would create building blocks to allow the development of high-performance platform server solutions, ultimately enabling OEMs to sell highly-differentiated products that equip end customers with servers that contain higher I/O bandwidth and greater reliability, availability and serviceability.
Broadcom said its initial server I/O chipset samples for use with the AMD Opteron processor platform are expected this fall.
