Leading liquid-crystal-display (LCD) TV makers are showcasing all their large flat-panel televisions at the 5-day Computex tradeshow in order to catch a grip of the digital TV market.
Teco, one of the LCD TV makers in Taiwan, have announced its expansion to plasma-display-panel (PDP) TVs. Senior director Aubrey Du of Teco stated that they have received orders for the new PDP models and are projecting 2004 shipments to reach 250,000, a 20% increase.
In addition, Teco is also preparing to supply 42-inch PDPs to certain European and US TV vendors beginning the third quarter. Meanwhile, Sampo Corp. has already begun shipments of PDP TVs to Gateway Inc. and Thomson AG. Joining TECO, Sampo, Tatung and BenQ are also displaying their 46-inch LCD TVs at the annual trade show.
Global shipments of LCD TVs are estimated to soar up to more than a hundred percent totaling around 10.2 million units this year, according to Topology Research Institute.
