At the FPD 2004, Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) and AU Optronics (AUO), two leading photonic display manufacturers in Taiwan, are showing off their largest products with huge LCD TV panels to start with.
The consumer market is already hungry for bigger and better display technologies, judging from the cooing crowds admiring the crystal-clear pictures of the jumbo HDTV (high-definition TV) format 47-inch LCD panel of CMO and the 46-inch LCD panel of AUO.
"In order to meet our customers' needs, CMO's R&D team has been working to develop a complete range of LCD TV panel products. In the first half of 2004 we have already completed development of a range of panel sizes that can be used to achieve maximum efficiency in panel cutting at our next-generation plant," said Dr. Kuo Chen-lung, associate vice president for LCD TV head division, and sales and marketing division at CMO. "These include 20.1-inch, 23-inch, 27-inch, 30-inch, 32-inch, and 37-inch panel, as well as 47-inch LCD TV panel, which is a larger size than any other Taiwanese manufacturer is producing.
CMO's 47-inch panel won the "Best Product Award", as honored by CIPO (Colour Imaging Industry Promotion Office), and the same product garnered the "Outstanding Photonics Award", issued by PIDA (Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association).
At AUO’s booth, there are many products ranging from 1.5- inch to 46 inch including a wall dedicated to 26-inch, 32-inch and 46-inch LCD TV panels. CPT is highlighting TV panels based on different technologies, including TFT LCD, PDP (plasma display panel), CRT and LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon).
The company introduces for the first time a 52-inch LCOS panel, to be volume produced in the second or third quarter of 2005. The panel will be sold to China and the US, the company said. In addition, HannStar has a complete set of panels, with sizes ranging from 7- to 32 inches, for AV products, notebooks, LCD monitors and LCD TVs.
