Intel Corp. has landed WiMAX agreements with two Chinese cities, the company revealed Wednesday.
During a visit to China, John Antone, Intel's VP and general manager of the Asia/Pacific sales and marketing group, announced the memoranda of understandings with the Dalian and Chengdu municipal governments.
The agreements call for Intel to deploy network infrastructure to take advantage of next-generation WiMAX broadband wireless technology, which provides a wireless alternative for last-mile broadband connectivity to businesses and homes.
"Digital technology, the expansion of wireless networking and the convergence of computing and communications will continue to enhance the way business is transacted, allow access to new markets and boost commerce globally," Antone said in a statement. "Today's announcements represent one step toward providing the broadband wireless technologies that will be essential to helping expand Internet access in China."
Specific terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
