Infineon to restructure its design network

Wednesday, June 16, 2004

With 40 design and development centers worldwide, Infineon plans to move work to its larger labs with specific expertise. Fewer centers will be more manageable, the sources said.

"We will definitely focus on some of the bigger sites," a company source said. "In the future, we will reduce the number of development centers." The source added, "To manage such a large network is very difficult, and the plan is to move staff from some of the smaller centers to the bigger ones."

Thomas Simonis, managing director of Infineon Technologies India Pvt. Ltd., here, said he was unaware of a plan to cut the number of Infineon centers. He added that Infineon has been hiring employees for its Indian center and plans to hire more.

The India center has been designated Infineon's worldwide software competence center. It employs more than 250 engineers and is now the company's largest software development center.
