Local sources reported that Hon Hai Industrial Co., Ltd., Taiwan's leading manufacturer of information technology products, have received contract orders of web communication products from Apple Computer Inc. With expansion in mind.
Hon Hai has officially acquired on April 1 Ambit Microsystems Inc., formerly a subsidiary of the Acer Group. It is expected Hon Hai will contract manufacture "AirPort Express" portable wireless relay stations, boasting the world's fastest of its kind, for Apple. Representative from Hon Hai did not reveal its client secrecy because of the signed agreement with customers.
Hon Hai has cooperated with Apple for several years in the desktop computer field. For the past few years, Apple has been expanding cooperation with Hon Hai because it highly praises the latter's ability to produce high-quality IT products. At present, Hon Hai is Apple's largest contract manufacturer of desktop computers. Major items produced for Apple include the eMac and Power Mac series. Hon Hai boasted it would see its web communication subgroup to grab over 30% annual growth in sales this year because of the promising prospects of the global web communication industry.
