Taiwanese IT hardware supplier said the shipment of set-top-box will increase in the second half due to the major world games such as the upcoming Olympic games in Athens and increasing uses of digital televisions.
Prime Electronics Satellitics Inc. projected its shipment to top two million systems, Zinwell Electric Co., Ltd. expected its shipment to reach 200,000 systems, and Cal-Comp Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Ltd. estimated its shipment to cross 1.5 million systems by the end of this year. New comers like Well Communication Corp., Puretek Industrial Co., Ltd. and AverMedia Technologies Inc. also reported orders increase.
Prime's set-top boxes are mostly the models for direct televisions and digital ground broadcasting systems while Zinwell said their set-top boxes are mostly used for HDTV. Separately, two top motherboard makers in Taiwan said the shipments of barebone systems expected to increase in the second half of this year and continue into 2005 amid rising demand from OEM clients.
Last year, Asustek introduced Pundit, Prodigy and Terminator (P4 and K7) and this year, T2 and DiGiMatrix. Gigabyte matching products including G-Max, in TA , TC and SA series. Both Asustek and Gigabyte said they have received substantial orders, but did not revealed the amount from its clients.
