Intel has resumed deliveries of its 915 chipsets, starting early this week, according to a news source. Sales of the new-generation Pentium 4 chipsets were suspended in late June after a defect was found in the ICH6 south bridge.
Intel has already informed local motherboard makers that it will recall all boards manufactured during the period between June 7 and June 14.
Motherboards to be recalled from Taiwanese first-tier motherboard makers, including Asustek Computer, Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI), are estimated to total 10,000 units each, according to the sources.
Demand for 915-based motherboards may begin picking up in late July as local motherboard makers are expected to lower their prices following Intel¡¦s plan to cut prices on LGA775-pin Pentium 520 processors (2.8GHz) from US$178 to US$163 on July 18, said the sources.
